History

A business with a strong foundation

Plourde Sewing Machines has been serving its clients for well over 45 years.

Mr. Guy Plourde, with the help of his wife, Mrs. Rachel Plourde founded the business on August 11, 1966.  They started with a small rented location on Court St, and soon moved to another rental on St Francois St.  It was just 5 years later that they decided to buy their own place, of course a little more spacious, which was located on Power Road.  Because of a new highway being built, 4 years later they were forced to move from their property.  It was then that they relocated on Victoria St…where the business still exists.

Mr. Plourde, having acquired a few  years experience as a Singer sewing machine salesperson had no problem achieving great results building a solid business with the name *Necchi*  as his prize logo.  Later he would join the Janome Empire.  But, they didn’t only work with sewing machines- soon after the opening of their business, they added vacuum cleaners to their inventory.  With brand names like Eureka, LaVallée and then DrainVac, there was no question that they had made the right decision…in fact Drain Vac is still the main name for our vacuums, as Janome is for our sewing machines.

Throughout the neighbouring villages and cities, over the years, Mr. Plourde worked hard to give his clients the best possible service, while Mrs. Plourde would do the same for the clients that would come into the shop on a daily basis. It was In September of 2002, that these founders decided to turn over the business to their only son Sylvain, who, a few months later, along with his family, took over the business.

Sylvain made some changes, adding another part to the store to make it a little more spacious. He continues, with a staff of 6 people, to offer the same quality of service that has been given over the years, with plans to keep giving that same service in the years to come.
